Movie prop collector David Oliver () actually owned one of the ILM helmets and from that helmet it was confirmed that the plastic was infact off-white in color, kind of a light gray. Some very color-oriented prop-makers thought that the RFT helmet did not quite match the color of the walls of the Tantive 4 movie set, nor the color of the white stormtroopers armor. Helmet Color For years the Star Wars costuming community has been debating about the color of the Rebel Fleet Trooper helmets.

We pulled vacuum-molds from an existing MKII helmetĪnd custom sculpted the "swept back wing" vacuum-mold. One usually comes up for auction about every 4 weeks or so. is a good place to find Mark II Navy helmets. The ILM movie used Rebel Fleet Trooper helmet was based on a USA World War 2 Mark II Navy Talker Helmet. Allow 3 to 4 weeks for it to be shipped out. I've already designed the "cheesegrater" additions in 3D as well, but still have to work on the "Ears" that hold the skirt in its place and at the proper angle. We are offering RFT helmets to the fans, in "Kit" or "Assembled" form. In addition, the Imperial NavyvTrooper helmet has a skirt that goes around the sides and back, which forces the brim of a vacuformed styrene helmet to warp, (because it wants to flex to being straight) making look like you are wearing a large salad bowl on your head. You may ask, "Why did you make a 3D one when you could have used the real one, pictured, as a buck for vacuforming?" The answer is, that I didnt feel like making another large vacuform tool that I probably won't ever use again, and that I also wanted to make a helmet that looked more functional than a thin dome of styrene/PVC. There hasn't been a good 3D printable file of this helmet out there, so I decided to use some photogrammetry software to make a 3D version. Notably, the Rebel Fleet Trooper, Imperial Navy Trooper and the Imperial Weapons Technician.
